BREAKING: Jerry Gana Confirms Jonathan’s Return — Ex-President to Join 2027 Presidential Race on PDP Ticket

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Jerry Gana has confirmed.

Delta Observer News reports that Gana, a former Minister of Information and one of the PDP’s founding figures, broke the news on Saturday during the party’s State Congress in Minna.

“There had been rumours, but I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as the PDP candidate,” Gana declared.

Jonathan, who was defeated in 2015 by the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has long avoided public talks of a comeback. But strong pressure from northern politicians and senior opposition figures has fuelled a campaign for his return.

Supporters argue that Jonathan’s single-term eligibility would open the way for power to return to the North in 2031. Within the PDP, he is viewed as a consensus-builder capable of uniting the fractured party ahead of the polls.

Gana explained that Jonathan’s renewed demand comes amid growing dissatisfaction with the current government’s performance.

Though constitutional doubts remain over his eligibility—having completed Yar’Adua’s tenure before serving a full term—Gana’s revelation is the clearest signal yet of Jonathan’s political comeback.

With the PDP battling defections and internal rifts, party stakeholders believe Jonathan’s return could reshape the 2027 race and restore the party’s national strength.
