Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has called for a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the death of Mr. Adeda Ekwevugbe, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

Dafinone, who expressed shock and sadness over the death of the senior civil servant, also appealed for calm among the people of Ughelli Kingdom, the Urhobo nation, civil servants and other concerned residents of Delta State as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.

In a statement mourning the deceased, Dafinone described Ekwevugbe’s death as deeply troubling, stressing that the circumstances surrounding the incident required authorities to establish the facts and provide answers to the deceased’s family, colleagues and the wider public.

He said the deceased had gone to his workplace in the course of his duties as a public servant and expressed concern that his life was lost under circumstances that had raised questions requiring proper investigation.

The Senator extended his condolences to the Ekwevugbe family of Ughelli Kingdom, describing the deceased as an Urhobo son and dedicated public servant who died in the prime of his career.

“On behalf of my family and the good people of Delta Central Senatorial District, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Ekwevugbe family of Ughelli Kingdom over this painful loss,” he said.

Dafinone acknowledged the steps taken by the Delta State Government under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, particularly the constitution of an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding Ekwevugbe’s death.

He also noted that the Delta State Police Command was conducting its own investigation into the incident.

The Senator urged all parties and members of the public to allow the relevant authorities to carry out their investigations without interference, saying that the demand for answers should not undermine the process of establishing the truth.

He, however, stressed that the investigation must be allowed to follow the evidence wherever it leads, adding that no individual found culpable should be shielded from accountability.

According to him, there must be no attempt to cover up the circumstances surrounding the death or protect anyone who may eventually be found responsible.

Dafinone said justice for Ekwevugbe must not only be done but must also be seen to be done, stressing the importance of public confidence in the investigative process.

He further disclosed that he would continue to follow developments surrounding the incident and engage with the Delta State Government, relevant authorities and security agencies to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the death were properly established.

The Senator urged the deceased’s family, friends, colleagues and the people of Ughelli Kingdom to remain strong during the difficult period, while praying for the peaceful repose of Ekwevugbe’s soul.

The death of the Deputy Director has continued to generate concern among colleagues, members of the public and stakeholders, with attention now focused on the outcome of the administrative and police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
