Nigeria At 66: Ayemidejor Applauds Delta’s Development Strides, Expresses Confidence In State’s Future

By Endurance Ikanone
As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, the Special Adviser to Delta State Governor on Aviation and Transport, Hon. Austine Ayemidejor, has commended the people of Delta State for their resilience and successive administrations for their contributions to the development of the state, expressing strong confidence in its future.
Ayemidejor, who spoke at his residence in Sapele ahead of the anniversary, said Delta State had, since its creation, continued to make remarkable progress in infrastructure, education, healthcare, human capital development and economic growth, with successive administrations laying foundations upon which subsequent governments have continued to build.
He said the development trajectory of the state showed that governance was a continuum, noting that the various administrations that had governed Delta contributed in different ways to the growth and transformation of the state.
According to him, the state has witnessed significant expansion in road infrastructure, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, urban development and empowerment programmes over the years, with many communities benefiting from projects initiated by successive governments.
Ayemidejor, who has himself served Delta State in various capacities, including as Supervisory Councillor, Secretary of Sapele Local Government Council, Civil Commissioner, Special Adviser on Entrepreneurship Development and Special Project Director of the Asaba International Airport, said his experience in public service had given him a close understanding of the state’s development journey.
He, however, expressed particular optimism about the direction of the state under the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, saying the governor’s emphasis on infrastructure, economic development, human capital and improved opportunities for the people was creating a strong foundation for sustainable growth.
He pointed to ongoing road and bridge projects across the state, including interventions designed to connect rural and hinterland communities and improve the movement of people and agricultural produce. One of the major current interventions is the reconstruction of the Uzere-Asaba-Ase Road and associated bridge works.
He also noted the administration’s efforts to broaden Delta’s economy beyond dependence on oil revenue, particularly through investments and opportunities in agriculture, energy, transportation, the blue economy, solid minerals and digital innovation. Governor Oborevwori has identified economic diversification, job creation and improved living standards as key objectives of the state’s investment strategy.
For Ayemidejor, these developments provide reasons for optimism because they combine physical infrastructure with efforts to strengthen the state’s economic base and create opportunities for its people.
He said the achievements recorded so far under the present administration should be viewed as part of Delta’s continuing development story, rather than in isolation, stressing that the progress made by previous governments has provided a foundation for the current administration to build upon.
The governor’s aide therefore called on Deltans to continue to support peace, unity and development across the state, stressing that government alone could not build the Delta of the future without the cooperation and active participation of its citizens.
As Nigeria celebrates 66 years of independence, Ayemidejor said he remained confident that Delta State was on a positive development trajectory, expressing optimism that the continued implementation of development programmes, economic diversification and investment in infrastructure and human capital would position the state for even greater achievements in the years ahead.
