Sapele Residents Commend Governor Oborevwori for Reappointing Dr. Pemu to Delta State Civil Service Commission

By Endurance Ikanone
Residents across Sapele Local Government Area have expressed strong commendation for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori following the reappointment and confirmation of Dr. Lawrence Pemu as a member of the Delta State Civil Service Commission.
Many described the Governor’s decision as a step that reinforces professionalism, stability, and integrity within the state’s public service structure, adding that the move reflects the Governor’s commitment to giving more to Deltans through competent and credible appointments.
The development came on Tuesday, 26 November 2025, when Dr. Pemu, a retired Permanent Secretary of the Delta State Hospitals Management Board, was formally introduced on the floor of the Delta State House of Assembly by Hon. Perkins Umukoro, the lawmaker representing Sapele Constituency and Chief Whip of the House. Introducing him to the Speaker and other legislators, Hon. Umukoro noted that Dr. Pemu exemplifies “integrity, transparency, and strong moral values,” describing his rise to Permanent Secretary as “a remarkable achievement attained through years of dedication and competence.”
Following his presentation, the House screened and confirmed Dr. Pemu, marking his second appointment to the Commission. His first appointment came under the administration of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, during which he served as one of the senior figures overseeing civil service reforms.
Beyond his administrative career, Dr. Pemu is also recognised as a seasoned political figure. A former aspirant for the PDP chairmanship position in Sapele Local Government Area, he is currently regarded as a stakeholder in the APC in Delta State, reflecting a wide reaching profile that blends civil service excellence with political experience.
Meanwhile, residents of Sapele have continued to express appreciation to Governor Oborevwori, saying the reappointment demonstrates that the Governor prioritises merit and experienced leadership over political interests.
According to many, this decision further confirms the Governor’s promise to “do more” for Deltans by strengthening key institutions with individuals who have proven records.
Mrs. Grace Efe, a retired primary school teacher, praised the Governor’s decision, saying, “This shows that Governor Oborevwori truly wants to give more to Deltans. Reappointing someone like Dr. Pemu means he is choosing competence over sentiment. It is a step that will strengthen the entire Civil Service Commission.”
Youth advocate David Adogho shared a similar view. “At a time when accountability is a major concern, bringing back someone with Dr. Pemu’s track record renews confidence,” he said. “The Governor deserves commendation for identifying the right people to drive public sector reforms.”
For small business owner Mary-Ann Arua, the move reflects leadership that listens. “This is beyond politics,” she said. “Civil service decisions affect our daily lives. By choosing someone with moral standing and experience, Governor Oborevwori has shown he wants the best for Deltans.”
Over the years, Dr. Lawrence Pemu has been recognised for contributing significantly to administrative restructuring, particularly during his service at the Hospitals Management Board. Supporters argue that his commitment to discipline, fairness, and due process will continue to bring value to the Delta State Civil Service Commission.
As Delta State continues its push toward improved governance and stronger public institutions, residents say the Governor’s decision is a clear demonstration of purposeful leadership. For many in Sapele, the reappointment of Dr. Pemu has renewed confidence in the government’s resolve to elevate professionalism and ensure that Deltans truly benefit from experienced, credible, and integrity driven public officers.
