The Delta State Computerised Vehicle Inspection Service (DELCVIS) has intensified its public sensitisation campaign across Sapele and neighbouring communities, calling on private and commercial vehicle owners to take advantage of its ongoing free computerised vehicle inspection exercise aimed at promoting safer roads and reducing accidents caused by mechanical faults.

During the awareness campaign, newsmen who accompanied officials of the agency were also taken on an inspection tour of the DELCVIS facility in Sapele, where they were shown the modern computerised testing equipment used in assessing the roadworthiness of vehicles.

Speaking during the campaign, the Head of Operations of DELCVIS, Engr. Kenechukwu Nwasike, urged motorists, transport unions, corporate organisations, and commercial vehicle operators to present their vehicles for inspection, stressing that the exercise is completely free of charge.

According to Engr. Nwasike, the initiative forms part of the Delta State Government’s commitment to ensuring road safety, environmental sustainability, and compliance with modern vehicle inspection standards obtainable globally.

He explained that the Delta State Computerised Vehicle Inspection Service officially commenced operations since April 1, 2023, with the mandate of modernising vehicle inspection processes through advanced digital testing systems capable of detecting hidden mechanical defects often missed during ordinary physical checks.

“The safety of lives on our roads remains our top priority. This exercise is not intended to victimize motorists or create unnecessary hardship for vehicle owners. It is designed to help motorists understand the true condition of their vehicles before mechanical failures result in avoidable road accidents,” he said.

Engr. Nwasike stated that many road accidents recorded across Nigeria are linked to poor vehicle maintenance, faulty braking systems, worn out suspension parts, bad tyres, poor lighting systems, and excessive emissions from vehicles operating without proper inspection.

He explained that the DELCVIS facility carries out several critical roadworthiness and safety tests including emission testing, suspension and alignment checks, brake performance testing, headlight testing, underneath inspection, and comprehensive visual inspections.

During the facility tour, newsmen observed the inspection process carried out on vehicles presented at the centre and commended the level of technology and professionalism displayed by officials handling the operations.

According to the DELCVIS operational guidelines, private vehicles are expected to undergo inspection once every year, while commercial vehicles are to be inspected twice yearly, in line with existing road safety regulations.

The Head of Operations further appealed to transport unions, corporate organisations, fleet operators, and commercial drivers whose vehicle documentation may have expired to cooperate with the agency by physically presenting their vehicles for inspection at approved centres.

He noted that the computerised inspection system not only improves road safety but also helps vehicle owners identify mechanical problems early, reduce maintenance costs, improve fuel efficiency, and minimize harmful environmental emissions.

The DELCVIS office in Sapele is located opposite Sapele Township Stadium, where officials say vehicle owners can conveniently access inspection services and obtain necessary guidance concerning vehicle compliance procedures.

Officials of the agency reiterated that the ongoing awareness and inspection campaign remains free of charge, encouraging motorists across Sapele and environs to embrace the initiative in the interest of public safety.

For enquiries and additional information, members of the public were advised to contact DELCVIS through its customer service line on 08065129769.

The agency maintained that its vision remains the promotion of safer roads and a sustainable environment across Delta State through effective vehicle inspection and compliance monitoring.
