Engr. Believe Akpotor Obakpororo, popularly known as “ODONKOR,” an aspirant seeking to represent Sapele State Constituency under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has come under intense scrutiny following allegations linking him to internet fraud activities, with the matter reportedly brought before the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services.

A group identified as “Concerned Sapele Residents” has reportedly called on the leadership of the NDC party and relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate the aspirant over what they described as “serious allegations capable of damaging the image and credibility of the party.”

According to information allegedly obtained from a security formation, the aspirant was reportedly linked to internet fraud activities and was accused of associating with suspected fraud syndicates operating within and outside Delta State.

Part of the allegations claimed that on March 25, 2026, one James Akpeberisa was allegedly involved in a dispute with the suspect over money reportedly obtained from a victim said to be residing in the United States.

The incident was also alleged to have been reported at the Police Station, though sources claimed no significant punitive action was taken against the parties involved at the time.

However, findings from a discreet investigation reportedly carried out by the unnamed formation allegedly established links between the suspect and internet fraud activities.

The report recommended that the suspect be invited to the State headquarters for further interrogation, especially regarding the allegations of cyber related fraud activities.

Meanwhile, the Concerned Sapele Residents have expressed disappointment over what they described as the growing infiltration of questionable characters into the political parties.

Speaking through a statement circulated in Sapele, members of the group insisted that the Nigeria Democratic Congress must protect its integrity by ensuring that only aspirants with clean public records are allowed to participate in its primary election.

The group further alleged that the Department of State Services had previously invited Engr. Believe Akpotor Obakpororo for questioning over related issues, although the outcome of the alleged invitation was never made public.

According to the residents, allowing any aspirant facing allegations of criminal activities to emerge as the party’s flag bearer could negatively affect public confidence in the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The NDC cannot afford to present a candidate with a questionable reputation if the party truly wants to gain the trust of the people of Sapele,” one of the concerned residents reportedly stated.

As of the time of filing this report, Engr. Believe Akpotor Obakpororo had not publicly reacted to the allegations, while the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Delta State was yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter.

Political followers in Sapele believe the controversy may further intensify political debates within Sapele constituency as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 general elections.
